उत्तराखंड देवभूमि लंबे आंदोलन के बाद जब केंद्र में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकार आई और प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में स्व: अटल बिहारी वाजपेई जी विराजमान हुए तब 9 नवंबर 2000,में उत्तराखंड पृथक राज्य की घोषणा उनके कार्यकाल की एक बड़ी उपलब्धि थी,
वाजपेई जी का जन्म 1924 में एक भारतीय राजनेता के रूप में हुआ कवि और पत्रकार की भूमिका में अग्रणी रचनाएं लिखी अटल बिहारी वाजपेई जी तीन बार भारत के प्रधानमंत्री बने विशेष कर एक गैर कांग्रेसी नेता के रूप में पूरे 5 साल का कार्यकाल प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में स्वर्णम कहा जा सकता है,
भाजपा के संस्थापक सदस्यों में से रहे,
अटल बिहारी वाजपेई जी के प्रधानमंत्री बनने पर स्वर्णिम चतुर्भुज और ग्रामीण सड़क योजना जैसे महत्वपूर्ण विकास कार्य को साकार किया तभी उन्हें भारत रत्न और पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित किया गया,
जन्म 25 दिसंबर 1924 को ग्वालियर मध्य प्रदेश में एक शिक्षक परिवार में हुआ,
शिक्षा : ग्वालियर के सरस्वती शिशु मंदिर और विक्टोरिया कॉलेज से पढ़ाई की डी ए वी कॉलेज कानपुर से राजनीति विज्ञान में स्नातकोत्तर की डिग्री प्राप्त की,
जुड़ाव : राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ R S S से जुड़े और 1942 के भारत जोड़ो आंदोलन में हिस्सा लिया जिसके तहत उन्हें जेल भी हुई,
राजनीति का एक लंबा अनुभव 1951 में भारतीय जन संघ में शामिल हुए बाद में 1968 1973 तक रहे,
प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में प्रमुख किए गए कार्य, स्वर्णिम चतुर्भुज परियोजना जो प्रमुख शहरों को जोड़ने वाली सड़क परियोजना के नाम से जानी जाती है,
प्रधानमंत्री ग्रामीण सड़क योजना जो अचल दुरुस्त गांव तक कनेक्टिविटी देने का कार्य करें हर गांव में बिजली पानी सड़क हो यह सपना साकार किया,
परमाणु प्रशिक्षण पोखरण 1998 का पहला नेतृत्व किया,
स्वर्गीय अटल बिहारी वाजपेई जी की पत्रकारिता राष्ट्रधर्म पांचजन्य और वीर अर्जुन जैसे प्रकाशनों के लिए जान जाती है,
9 बार लोकसभा सांसद दो बार राज्यसभा सांसद सर्वश्रेष्ठ सांसद चुने गए विदेश मंत्री 1977 से 79 तक केंद्रीय विदेश मंत्री रहे अटल बिहारी वाजपेई सर्वोच्च नागरिक का सम्मान उन्हें मिला सुशासन दिवस के रूप में उनका जन्मदिन 25 दिसंबर को मनाया जाता है निस्वार्थ सेवा ही उनका कर्म था,
